Auditions for our October Production

Our October performance for 2025 will be Ladies Day, written by Amanda Whittington, and to be directed by Keith Graham. It’s a gorgeous comedy about four ladies from Hull fish docks who take themselves out for a day at the races.

The play needs 4 ladies, and up to 6 men. The play was first staged in 2005 and has been a roaring success wherever it’s performed.

Auditions will be held at St. John’s Hall on 21st April at 7:30pm.

Audition pieces will be made available at a later date.

Performances will be the October weekends of 3rd, 4th and 10th, 11th.

Synopsis

Work, love and life are just one long, hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. But their fortunes are set to change when Linda finds tickets to Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot the year it relocated to York.

Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink, a flirt and a flutter. If their luck holds, they could hit the jackpot – and more besides…

This play offers great opportunities for involvement in all aspects of creating theatre. We will need set designers and builders, costume enthusiasts, lighting and sound support, performers, stage crew, front of house team, set dressers, and more… and, of course, lots of support getting the word around so we can fill our hall with excited audience members.

So, the big question….do we have what it takes?
If you are interested in being part of this show in any other way and would like us to contact you with further information after auditions please let us know at: info@mortimer-dramatic.org

Should we not attract enough actors throughout this audition opportunity we will look for alternative shows with cast sizes relevant to turnout. If you are interested please make sure we have visibility of you!

Please note that all those involved in the October 2025 show will need to enrol in membership for 2025/26 production season; those who join will be eligible for all other shows and activities for the remainder of the season!
