The lounge of a country house – Time: the present. The author of Curtain Up on Murder and Murder Weekend has woven “an intense web of deceit, intrigue and secrets”. Prospective contestants for a TV reality show gather in a country house, aiming to win a large cash prize, but only if they survive the rigours of the ultimate Spygame.

Originally performed:
October 18th, 19th, 23rd, 25th and 26th, 2024

Directors programme notes from Kerry.

I’d like to start by welcoming you all to ‘Spygame, a comedy-thriller’. This play was first performed in 2008, however there isn’t a huge amount about its further performances. This I took on as a real challenge. I’ve nothing to compare it to!

Bettine Manktelow is a writer I enjoy – the twists and turns she’s created along the way make for a gripping story line. I really enjoyed reading this and once we began ‘read throughs’ the comedy elements came alive. Set in modern day meant there was no specific set or wardrobe requirements. We have free reign – where do you start! The team (to which I’m very grateful for) have supported me in bringing this play to Mortimer stage. As I write we have sold all our tickets and had to put on an extra performance! I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Thank you all for your continued support, especially to my poor husband Huw – who has put up with many nights of not seeing me as I dash out to paint set, hold a rehearsal etc!

As ever we rely on our members hugely to bring something like this to stage from set build, searching for props, making the tea etc. If you have an interest in all things stage- why not join us? Head to our website for further info or speak to one of the team tonight, we’d love you to be part of our family.
